Growing up in the Northwest I took every opportunity to hike and ski with friends, but my relationship with the outdoors really stepped up in college. I discovered river rafting, with long paddling trips and summer jobs in the rafting world. One quarter I ran away to Utah to ski, and I spent time in Hawaii studying marine biology, but to be honest mostly was scuba diving. I joined the crew team, because, any excuse to be on the water. In between all that I fit in backpacking, a lot of biking and later went on some epic bicycling adventures. All of these things led to a lifetime of choosing to play outside whenever I can! Now I live in Port Townsend where I settled down to raise two daughters. I’ve been Alta Group’s bookkeeper for over 20 years and still love the job; it’s amazing to see how much we’ve grown and how the outdoor industry has changed. These days for fun I play on my paddle board, kayak, hike in the Olympics and Cascades, ride my bike as much as possible, and right now I am planning some long hikes, overseas travels, and scuba diving adventures.

Although I probably had the shortest tenure as FNG in Alta Group history (3 months, thanks Scott!), I’m still only 9 months into the job.
